Analysts Split On Whether PS3 Beat Xbox 360 In April

by Billy Brown
PS3 outsold Xbox 360 in North America the first two months of the year, only to have Microsoft's console take the month of March.
Now that April is done, which next-gen console took the number two slot? It depends on who you ask.
According to Michael Pachter of Wedbush Morgan, Sony sold 290,000 units while the 360 sold 15K less at 275,000. However, Mr. Pachter predicted that Sony won in March, only to be proven wrong once the official NPD numbers came in. Whether he's nailed it this time remains to be seen.

When it comes to their last gen, next-gen, and handheld offerings, Sony does not belief that their competition comes from either Microsoft or Nintendo.
Instead, they have a broader philosophy of who they're competing with.
“I think that PS3, PS2 and PSP are all entertainment platforms so I feel that our competition is not Microsoft or Nintendo, but basically any form of entertainment that is competing for the consumers’ attention,” SCE president Kaz Hirai said in an interview with MCV.
Sony: PS3 Home Is Great, But Needs More Time

by Chris Naughton
While it seems like forever since Home was originally announced by Sony, it looks like we're finally going to see the full debut this September.
"I said at the Tokyo Game Show that I would not open up Home until I was completely happy with it and I still stand by that statement," Sony prez Kaz Hirai said of the PlayStation 3 virtual community at PlayStation Day.
"We have been testing Home for some time and I simply feel that, as great as it currently is, it needs a little bit more time before it is ready for the wider public, something we firmly believe we can provide in the autumn."
Another PS3 GTA IV Temporary Fix?

by Billy Brown
While Take Two must be working overtime to try to fix the problems that are haunting the PS3 version of GTA IV for some people, there's another temporary solution that may do the trick.
According to PSU, one trick may be to simply sign out of the PlayStation Network prior to booting up.
Here's their "somewhat guarantee" about the trick:
I can at least somewhat guarantee the success of this method. I was plagued by an endless loading screens upon booting up the game, and I tried everything to remedy the situation - reinstalling the game, deleting the most recent save (out of two), swapping GTA IV discs, playing the game on a separate profile and so on. Nothing worked. Then I signed out of PSN and began the title, and viola, Niko stood amidst the denizens of Liberty City!

Take-Two feels your pain when it comes to GTA IV freezing and/or locking up during PlayStation 3 play.
While the company doesn't have a definitive explanation as to what's causing the problem or a fix that works 100% of the time, they have offered some steps to take to try to alleviate the problems.
It's better than nothing, we suppose. And here they are, courtesy of Game|Life:
Delete the game's install data. This is done via the PS3 options. Scroll along the cross media bar until you reach the 'Game' tab, now scroll up / down the list until you reach the 'Game Data Utility' Enter this and locate the GTA IV option. Highlight this and press triangle once, from the menu select Delete. This will delete the game's install information.
Analyst: Brand Loyalty Helps PS3 GTA IV

by M. Renton
Despite the fact that the PS3 version of GTA IV is going through a wee bit of growing pains the first few days, it looks like sales of PlayStation 3 consoles have been helped by the must-have title.
"Grand Theft Auto fans who love the game grew up on PlayStation and we believe that rich heritage will be a deciding factor for many gamers at retail," said Peter Dille, Senior Vice President, Marketing & PLAYSTATION Network. "This enthusiasm for GTA IV, combined with the excitement behind Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, Metal Gear Solid 4, LittleBigPlanet, and Resistance 2 will further drive PS3 hardware sales."
Sony: We're Looking Into PS3 GTA IV Online Issues
Wed, 30 Apr 2008 15:21:07 -0500
by Robert Gordon
It's a particularly frustrating time for many PS3 gamers who are desperately trying to get online to play GTA IV and are instead discovering connection issues.
What some are failing to realize is that this is not the fault of Sony or the PlayStation Network -- the PS3 version is required to run over Rockstar's servers, not Sony's. That's why PSN is up and running beautifully while GTA IV is the sole title that's lagging.
Luckily for Xbox 360 gamers, they are getting their online experience through Live and are not suffering for it at the moment.

And it now has a nifty little "EX" at the end of it, too!
“After the launch of the Xbox 360 version, we had a unique situation that allowed us to reflect on what could be done with the PlayStation 3 version,” lead producer Mike Bond explained to MTV Multiplayer.

Blockbuster has decided to get more aggressive in the video game department, offering more hardware and variety than ever before.
And it looks like that means a new PS3 bundle, which upon examination, isn't exactly earth shattering. The retailer is offering a 40GB PS3, DVD remote, HDMI cable, Spider-Man 3 on Blu-ray, a Blockbuster 12-week rental card, and the Transformers game all for the decent price of $500. Did we mention it's not exactly earth shattering?

However, the title's finally coming here in the end of May, and PS3Fanboy has some details about our version of the title.
Singstar for PlayStation 3 will cost $59.99 for both the microphone and game bundled, and the standalone disc will be $39.99. Thankfully, the PS2 mic will work on the PS3 game, so no double dipping will be required.
